Pasta para Duros are crispy, light and airy, and completely vegan! Duros are also known as chicharrones de harina but despite the name “chicharrones”, these Mexican chips are made from wheat flour and don’t contain any meat. The pasta is made with flour, water, salt & baking powder. Nothing else! In Mexico, duros are sprinkled with salt, lime juice, and hot sauce then shaken together in a bag, traditionally sold by street vendors.
A healthier alternative to your average pack of chips, these uncooked pasta chips are made from wheat and once dipped in hot oil or heated in a microwave will quickly puff up to a crisp. These crunchy snacks are fun to make and can be seasoned in so many different ways. These duritos are perfect for both kids and adults making it a great all-around snack that everyone will enjoy.
With this DIY Duros kit, experience the fun in cooking Duros and drizzle with the desired amount of lime & hot sauce.
In a large pot, add the oil and heat over medium-high heat. To test when the oil is hot enough to cook the chicharrones, add one to the oil. If it starts to puff within 3 seconds, then it's ready to start batch cooking. Carefully drop a few chicharrones into the hot oil. Keep moving them as needed if there are spots that are not cooking evenly. They cook in less than a minute per batch. Remove from hot oil and place into a plate or bowl lined with paper towels. When ready to eat, drizzle with hot sauce and chile-lime powder and enjoy!
