Extremely Rare and Important Matt Louwelsa Pillow Vase, 4” tall, Artist Signed
Extremely rare, important and unusual Matt Louwelsa Pillow Vase.
Due to the extreme rarity of this line, it is possibly it is an experimental piece created to compete with the rare variety of dark Owens Matt Utopian, called Renaissance ware.
This is supported by the fact the bisque clay used to manufacture it does not appear to be the standard material Weller used in other pieces of pottery from this time period.
This vase has a dead sound to it without any cracks/hairline present, suggesting a different or more porous clay was used inits manufacturing.
The Matt Louwelsa pottery line is often lumped together with the lighter colored and equally rare Perfecto line.
The darker variety of this piece is even rarer than the Perfecto line.
This pillow vase has the Weller Louwelsa half circle mark on its bottom and is artist signed “MC” or “MG” on its side.
Please view the photographs included with this eBay listing as this pillow vase has 2 areas of glaze flaking on its back and limited chigger bites on its rim.
Probably less than a few dozen pieces of this line exist at most regardless of their condition.
