    Description

A most intriguing LARGE bowl, probably cut by Meriden, in Rose Diamond and Hexad.  Measuring 8 1/2" across and 2 1/2" high, it really shows off the cutting very nicely.  A couple of scattered flea bites on a few teeth, nothing more than pinpricks. A couple of small pinhead nicks on the floor of the bowl, off to the side, which can be seen when angled into the light just right.
It's a 4ths symmetric layout.  The fabulous rose diamonds are the hob centers to 24 point hobstars which are each encircled by a chain of flat stars all nicely mitered.  Each of these shares a large, shield-shaped field of hob diamond hexad with its neighbor.  The hexad and the Rose Cut Diamonds bring abundant flash and sparkle to the piece!
    The curious part is a
    fifth
Rose Cut Diamond in the middle of the bottom of the bowl.  That's a first, as far as I know.  The bowl rests upon the crosshatched triangles surrounding the floor's HUGE hobstar configuration, which raises the Rose Cut Diamond above the surface and keeps it free from scratches, as well as letting light pass through.  Just lovely!
It has a certain similarity to Clark's
    Heroine
pattern, but not close enough for an attribution.  The overall cutting and design layout make Meriden the most likely cutting house.
