    Description

This curvaceous, beautifully designed bowl in Bergen’s
    Valentine
pattern measures 8 1/4" x 3 1/2" on a shimmering, clear blank weighing exactly 4 lbs.   Excellent condition.
It’s a coherent, smartly designed pattern in a 3-repeat layout of two major motifs, rather than the usual major and a minor.  These are:
    (1)  buzz stars with double crosscut diamond hobs floating in clear fields marked by sharp peaks the rim.
    (2)  triple sets of vesicas joined at their lower tips and separated by flashed fans. The opposing pairs of vesicas visually link to the buzz stars being likewise filled with double crosscut diamond and sporting a high peak atop the center, double X-cut vesica.
Curved, sweeping bands of five miters filled with notched prism link the two motifs and tie the entire program together.
Note how cleverly the middle miter is significantly wider than its flanks to create pairs of linking bands rather than just one overly thick band.
A much larger buzz star swirls in a hexagonal field on the base,  accented with triangular pairs of silver diamond and clear fields of floating radiant stars.
    Valentine’s
listed price is the same as
    Ensign
, the expensive sister pattern to Bergen's celebrated
    Plymouth
aka ‘Cornucopia’ pattern.  The 1904 catalog cost of .00 translates to 4 in 2020 US dollars.
